Tonight is finally the last night of editing our documentary. It's finally hitting me that this project is almost over and my partner and I will be able to hear the responses from the audience on Friday night. Tonight all we had to do was add a picture and clip of Christian and his father, Print to tape, and burn it to a DVD. Yes, this may sound very simple... Only 3 things to do. Absolutely NOT! Well, when we opened up the documentary some of our files went offline. I have no idea of how this could have happened. Luckily all we had to do was render files and everything was taken care of. Next, We had to add the photo of Christian from his days of playing Pop Warner football. We requested from his family that they send some childhood pictures but we only receive one. SIDE NOTE: I'm learning in this profession you have to work with peoples schedules and work with what you have. In this case we did! We were definitely grateful for the picture we received from his father.
After all the editing was done we were able to print to tape and burn to a DVD. Only problem we didn't have a new tape and no money to buy one. So we decided to just burn to a DVD. Luckily I brought 3 DVDs because the first DVD we burned all the way through there were lines throughout our whole Doc.
This was around 2:00am, we both agreed that we would burn another copy ourselves and see if the same thing happened. Kyle called me at 3:40am and OF COURSE! The same thing happened.

FSU vs. UF Game & Another Night of Editing!
Today my partner Kyle and I went to the UF and FSU game. During the time when we started writing the script we both decided that we were not going to including this game in the documentary because the Doc is due Nov 30th and the game was the weekend before. Prof. Jones thought this game was important and that we should include it in our Doc.
This was one of the most exciting games I've went too since we started on the Doc. FSU and UF are one of the biggest rivals in Florida. Every year this game is huge and fans of both teams look forward to this game. The game was packed today and FSU fans were ready to win, I could just tell by the enthusiasm. It was also senior night and this was Christian Ponders last time playing in Doak Stadium as a FSU student.
During the 3rd quarter it started to get really cold outside and it was hard for me to hold the camera steady. At this point I took out my gloves and hat to keep warm, which sort of helped a little bit. As the game went on FSU kept scoring points and Ponder played well himself. The score was 31-7, FSU winning the game. FSU also found out that night that they were going to play in the ACC championship game, which was bitter sweet. Now that they are going to the ACC championship the team will not be able to attend Doc Night.
After the game I had to walk all the way from the FSU stadium to High Rd. for the second time which was not fun at all. I was so tired but I knew I had to log and capture tapes and add in the footage from tonight's game. Kyle met me at the school around 10:30 and we stayed until 12:30. We got a lot accomplished and I'm glad we decided to add this game in the Doc.

Night #3
This is night #3 of editing. We are trying to get a lot done before the Thanksgiving holiday. Also the final edit is due Tuesday Nov 30th, which isn't a lot of time. Tonight Paul was able to voice all the VO's for us. After hearing Paul on the tracks, the documentary is definitely coming together. We finished with Paul around 2am and we laid all the tracks we finished but we still waiting on Ponder's family to email pictures and we still have to do credits and a final run through to clean up and loose ends. LONG NIGHT but Thanksgiving is two days away.

Night #2
Another night of editing. Kyle and I have been at the school for 5 hours now. We have a good majority of the doc laid on the tracks. Only thing that we are missing is the vocal talent, pictures from Christian Ponders family, and we just found out that we will be attending the FSU and UF game. I ended up leaving around 4:30am because I had work that morning. My partner stayed until 6am. We are in the home stretch, I'm am so ready for the Thanksgiving Holiday to get some rest.

Trailer is DUE!
The trailer for the documentary has been turned in. Putting this trailer together was a lot of fun. I was so excited to finally see what our project was sculpting into. Although this is my documentary, its often hard to know what direction my partner is going into with the documentary. Now that we were able to sit down together and put the B-roll and Sots on the timeline, I finally felt like we were a team. We both liked the same shots, music, vocal talent, and transitions. I felt that this was actually our documentary and not just Kyle's doc and I as the assistant. After we showed people and got feedback, our confidence level was so high!

Logging and capturing! & Submitting for Doc night
Last night was the first night I logged the tapes. So far we have 7 tapes and this was a lot of logging and capturing. After the first 4 tapes the computer, camera, and my firewirer started to not work properly. Some of the tapes would log but not capture all the way through. So I had to start logging and capturing on the computer. I ended up staying at the school for at least 8 hours. This was not a fun day. After all that Kyle told me that eventually I would have to re-log and capture the tapes onto my firewirer because if we were to move computers our files would be offline. I knew I had to get logging done so my partner could get started on the script because we are submitting for doc night and the date is right around the corner.

FSU vs. BYU
This past weekend was my first time filming a college football game. My partner and I went to the FSU and BYU game. Since this was my first game and after we had our argument Kyle met me out there and showed my what to look for, what plays to film, to look for interesting fans in the stands, fans with Christian Ponder's number on etc. I felt really confident after Kyle helped me guided me on what to film. I was very nervous at first but after the 2nd quarter I was walking around the field and capturing all sorts of stuff. I was very happy that Kyle helped me... This is what I wanted him to do at the Samford game.

FSU vs. Boston College
Yesterday I had to film the FSU and Boston College football game. Yesterday was the hottest game I've ever had to film at. I was expecting the weather to be cold, I was definitely wrong. The was beaming and I was sweating. I actually went to the game with a classmate Rachel Moore and Jabari Jackson. I ended up meeting Jarabi at his house and we parked Jabari's car at Rachel's which was about a 10 min walk from the FSU stadium.
This was a good game FSU won 24-19. I was finally getting the hang of what my partner wanted, following the plays, more steady with the camera, and walking the field without being afraid of getting in the way of the ball. Around the 3rd quarter Kyle was able to make it to the game but I had to leave as soon as he go there. I called for a ride because my car was parked at Jabari's house on High Rd. Unfortunately, my phone died and I waited for my ride to come for an hour. So I had to walk all the way from Lake Bradford to High Rd. That was the worst day of filming.

Pitch Selections
Today we as a Specialize class found out all of the documentaries that Prof Jones choose and who we would be paired up with to work on the documentaries. None of my pitches were chosen but I was paired up with Kyle Marcil and the documentary that was chosen for our group was the Heisman. Kyle pitched this idea and the role that I will play is the videographer/editor. I'm very excited about this testamentary because this is part of history and I'm involved in it.
Both Kyle and I got together after class to decide if we were going to film the first home game, which was that Saturday. We agreed, but there was an issue my partner would not be able to make it. Therefore that meant I would be filming a college football game by myself. At first I agreed to just go and film but after I sat down and let everything sink in about what I would be doing, a MILLION and ONE questions popped in my head. Such as, would I have to pay for parking, where was I going to park, what did I need to film, what if I get hit with the ball, who else could go out there with me, what if I cant find parking, what to do period. I have no clue about football, I've only filmed a little league softball team, NEVER a major college football team, I WAS SOOO SCARED!
I came up with every excuse in the world not to film and my partner did not see what the big deal was. We ended up having an argument and at that point I wanted nothing to do with the documentary. I started to question why would Prof. Jones partner me up with a person that choose a sports theme. After Kyle and I told each other how we felt we came to the agreement that we both needed to pass this class, this was both of our documentaries and we were partners until the end.
